Who buys a Sew Heart Felt Tiny Animal, who they buy it for, what they are trying to solve, and how far along they are when an ad reaches them. Built from 6,612 reviews, 52,978 orders, 36,529 Meta purchases, a year of Google search data and the Triple Whale channel view. Every number on this page is computed from those files. Internal working document; the persona doc itself is clients/sew-heart-felt/personas.md (draft).
01 · How the personas were built
Six sources, six findings, five people
Nothing here comes from a survey or a guess. Each persona is a pattern that showed up independently in at least two sources, then was written in the customers' own words from the reviews.

02 · The buyer changes by season
Same brand, four different buyers across the year
Meta purchases by age and gender, four windows. At Mother's Day the account is mostly women under 55 buying for their mothers. At Christmas men rise to a third and 25 to 34 doubles. In summer it is women over 55. This single chart is why there are five personas and not one.

03 · It is a gift business hiding in the data
The order data undercounts gifts; the reviews do not
Shopify only sees a gift when the shipping surname differs from the billing surname, which misses every mum, sister and daughter who shares a name. Even so the proxy peaks at Mother's Day, and the £1 message card is attached six times more often on those orders. The reviews tell the real story: 45% were written by someone buying for another person.

What people buy, month by month
Every order classified by the occasion its lead product belongs to. Mother's Day owns March, Valentine's owns January, hobby and identity animals carry the summer, Christmas is a quarter of Nov to Dec, and weddings run all summer. The persona who is buying changes with the colour.

06 · The five stages of awareness
Where each persona is standing when the ad arrives
Eugene Schwartz's ladder, written in Sew Heart Felt terms. A persona's stage decides the hook, the objection to answer and the proof to show. It never decides campaign structure: delivery stays broad and is never split by stage or persona.

She knows Mother's Day is coming and that flowers are the default. She has not yet considered a keepsake, or she has and is comparing.
Use case, in the customer's words
Problem
Flowers are the default and they die in a week; on a ward they are often not allowed at all.
Desire
To see Mum's face light up and to be remembered daily: "to remind her every day how much I love her".
Failed solution
"the usual flowers", "a small fortune on a bouquet", a card that is not enough.
Reason to believe
Handmade, "the pictures online don't do it justice"; arrives in the little house box; 4.97 across 6,612 reviews.
Micro moment
Mum opening the box: "she squealed with delight as she opened the box".
Trigger moment
Mothering Sunday approaching (1 to 12 March took 86% of March 2026); the diagnosis; the visit she cannot make.
Objections
Will it arrive in time; is £19.99 a lot for something 12cm tall; will Mum understand it (the reviews say she does).
“Bought this for my 93 year old mum for Mother's Day unfortunately she's starting with dementia but she loves him and keeps asking where he's come from”

“She was chuffed . Well made and super cute...better than the usual flowers and longer lasting!”

He has an occasion and a doubt. He is not comparing brands; he is deciding whether to risk something other than roses.
Use case, in the customer's words
Problem
Roses are expected and gone in a week; when the year has been hard he wants "a moment of joy to cut through".
Desire
Her being "literally speechless" when she opens it; a gift that stays on her dresser and she "talks to" every morning.
Failed solution
Flowers, chocolates; spending on the wrong thing when money is tight.
Reason to believe
"she's not into ornament type things but omg she absolutely loved it"; reviews from other men; the house box and the message card; 30-day returns.
Micro moment
The box opened on the 14th; the animal named.
Trigger moment
Early February; an anniversary; a loss ("the missis cried when she opened the box").
Objections
"Will she think it's silly"; price when money is tight (answered by "worth every penny").

She already knows a small meaningful object beats flowers. Her question is which one: the nurse for the nurse, the cricketer for the cricketer.
Use case, in the customer's words
Problem
Flowers are banned on wards and die anyway; a card is not enough; pet loss has no ready gift; generic gifts say nothing about the person.
Desire
"It brought her a smile"; "her most favourite get well gift she had received"; the recognition moment.
Failed solution
A bouquet, supermarket flowers, cards. (Mugs, socks and vouchers are a hypothesis, not evidenced.)
Reason to believe
Nurse Mouse "to look after my friend when she came out of hospital"; the spaniel on the tree "so they know she is with them"; "the mouse has such character".
Micro moment
The parcel on the doorstep of someone who could not go out; the nurses asking about it; opening the little house and seeing THEIR thing in the mouse's hands.
Trigger moment
The phone call (surgery, a diagnosis, a death, a retirement); a birthday, a new job, qualifying, the Ashes.
Objections
Is it appropriate ("better than any card"); delivery to a hospital address; does the right character exist (the search terms say yes).
“This gorgeous little mouse and her balloons have attracted so much attention by the nursing staff ... Better than any card I could have sent her.”
Gillian P. · Get Well Soon Mouse

The rule of thumb
Two peaks decide the year. Mother's Day (Feb+Mar, a third of revenue) and Christmas (Nov+Dec, a third). Content for each must be finished a month before the window opens.
Mothering Sunday moves. 15 March 2026 became 7 March 2027, so the whole Mother's Day window shifts a week earlier next year.
Summer belongs to the Thoughtful Friend. Weddings, graduations, get-well and the identity match carry May to September, when the Meta buyer is 85% women and 58% aged 55 and over.
The Collector is evergreen. New character drops, the matching pair and the January sale speak to her all year; Klaviyo flows (dead since 10 July) are her natural channel once fixed.
What is not on the calendar, and why
Father's Day is marked experimental: dads are 0.8% of review recipients, though the Mum-to-Dad matching-pair path is real.
Easter had zero tagged orders last year despite a Duck collection; test, do not plan around it.
US Mother's Day only matters if the paused US programme is reactivated.
Birthday and get-well never spike; they are the floor every month and belong to the Thoughtful Friend all year.

Known gaps
Review bias. 98% of reviews are five stars; the 27 unhappy voices are mostly price-for-size and gift-flow failures (invoice in the box, message card to the wrong person).
Recipients we barely hear from. Dads (50 reviews), grandparents (15), teachers (24). Father's Day exists in the order paths but nobody reviews it; treated as an experimental slot, not a persona.
Gift messages live outside Shopify. Only 30 orders carry message text; the digital card app holds the rest. The "moment of giving" language comes from reviews instead.
Meta demographics describe Meta-recruited buyers (36,529 purchases); Google leaves 38% of conversions without an age.
Gift proxy undercounts. Surname-differs misses every gift within a family; first-name-differs (13.9% overall, 21.9% in March) is the wider net.
No survey exists. Nothing above depends on one. Cells marked hypothesis in the persona doc are reasoned, not evidenced.
